Top Ten Tips to create the perfect Invitation

Ensure the success of your event by getting the Invitation spot on!

   1. Reflect the event. Formal, more serious events often demand traditional thick white cards and black engraved script, but if it’s not, then anything goes, be imaginative and try to communicate the theme of the party.

   2. Plan ahead. 6-8 weeks before the event is considered the miniimum for sending out invites. Allow time for choosing materials, good creative design, mock-ups and samples as well as the printing time.

   3. Get the numbers right. After compiling your guest list, increase the total by at least 20% before ordering the invites. This will cover you for any mistakes at addressing stage and avoid you having to re-order a small quantity later at a far higher price.

   4. Wording. Think carefully about the text. People do need to know exactly how to reply, what time to turn up and what to wear. Do not make any of this appear confusing.

   5. Size is important. Traditional invites are 6” x 8”, 5 ½” x 7”, 5” x 7” but any size or shape is possible. Just remember you may need specially made envelopes to match which will add to the overall cost and take a little longer to manufacture.

   6. Consider materials. Invites don’t always have to be on white card. Coloured, metallic or textured boards and even plastics can look stunning. Samples are freely available. So ask for a wide selection before choosing.

   7. Techniques. Varying and mixing different print techniques can produce great results. Look at everything from Litho (flat) printing, Letterpress, Engraving and Foil blocking.

   8. Envelopes. Make the envelope match the invitation in size, shape and material. Coloured paper or tissue linings will add to its style. A small logo on the flap will finish it off perfectly!

   9. Calligraphy. Stunning handwriting on the invites and envelopes makes a huge difference. Remember to allow at least an extra week in the schedule and extra cost in your budget.

  10. Don’t forget the extras. Remember you may also need Place cards, Menus, Table number cards, Maps etc. They should all tie in with the invite and you’ll save money by printing them at the same time.
