July '09 - 'Watermarking' Update
Further to our last ‘watermarking’ bulletin, we are pleased to say that we are now producing some of the ‘watermarked’ paper previously manufactured by Curtis Fine Papers and are very keen to expand in this area.
Although we do not make the paper in house, we can add a 'mark' to an existing paper stock that to all intents & purposes looks just as if it was put into the paper at the time of manufacture.
To produce a good ‘watermark’, the formation of the paper is important. If you hold the paper up to the light & look through it, you can nearly always see a blotchy effect of the pulp the paper was made from. This blotchyness is always there to a greater or lesser extent.
On the better papers the blotches are close together, some so close that they are hard to see, but on some of the lesser quality papers, the blotches are further apart. The further apart the blotches are, the less distinct the ‘mark' will appear.
We always use Conqueror, one of the leading brands of business papers as a benchmark. This paper is well made with a good formation. If the paper has a formation similar to this then it should ‘watermark’ well and we do have a range of well formulated papers which have proved their suitability.
We are also developing an exciting range of papers with a themed ‘watermark’ using sporting, musical and geographical symbols, look out for further updates on this.
